BARE NECESSITIES! LET'S FILL IT...
Last week I spent some time at the Everett Gospel Mission of both the men and women. My life was greatly impacted. For a few years now, God has been impressing and preparing my heart for something huge. The Rock Church is very involved in giving to the poor and missions yet I know God wants to increase, increase, increase! I have been "antsy" in a sense, to do something mighty in this area. I am sure you are like me and have something God wants to do in you but you don't know exactly what or how? My fast at the beginning of the year was to gain more of a heart for the pre-Christian, the poor and to get my brain around what God is doing in this area. My prayers and worship have revolved around this, as well.
I'm excited to share God began unfolding His vision this past week. It reaches beyond Everett Gospel Mission but as I toured the facilities and spoke with guests and staff, I saw a real need we must fill...NOW! As of today, these items cannot wait. I don't have a fancy box or creative signs...there is no time for that. Our creative team and staff are working on Easter, Father's Day and the deluge of salvations God is bringing to the house.
Let me premise this by saying I was and am truly blessed by the staff at the Mission and all they are doing. God is moving mightily on their behalf.
I invite you to join with me to collect the following:
1. Bare Necessities: Men's boxers, briefs, Women's underwear, children's...all new. I was speaking with a gentleman who said the mission gives out used underwear because they don't have enough new. Used!
2. New Shoes: All sizes. Men's and Women's. Each Saturday, there is a line of people around the building to receive clothing. Their clothing is very worn (more to come on the vision for this) and their shoes were all old. Let's give them new shoes!
3. Hotel shampoos. Each day, men and women come to the shelter needing a shower. The shelter gives each one a small bag of hotel shampoos and such. They are down to a few bottles. Help me remedy this! I have been saving those great little shampoos for the guests who stay at our house, at least I thought. Now, I know it was for these men and women.
In Matthew 26:11, Jesus tells us we will always have the poor among us. We can't stop at meeting one need. We are vessels which God wants to pour blessing through. God says, (Prov. 28:27) "He who gives to the poor shall not lack..." This is a season of giving. Storing up in heaven our eternal harvest and lending to God. When we give, He gets the glory. Friends, help me make God BIG in our region.
Beginning Easter Sunday, there will be a box in the back of the worship center. Get a hold of everyone you know, involve your children and friends and LET'S FILL IT!
