OLDIES BUT GOODIES

I love to eat at nostalgic places. Dick's Drive-In in Seattle, Burger Master in Bellevue or how about Kid Valley?

I remember having my birthday at Ferrel's. That was an event! Of course, there is Chuck E. Cheeses and Vips. I grew up in Bothell and a friend of mine's family still owns the Ranch Drive-In. I used to get a corn dog, cherry drink (don't offer them any longer) and a dipped cone. MMmmm! Thanks for the memories, Roslyn.

My dad took me for coffee and a hot butterhorn every morning at Alexander's Coffee Shop in Bothell. He always offered me coffee but I opted for hot chocolate, at least in my early years. Those are still the best butterhorns I've tasted.

Okay, one more...when both of my parents were going to church (that's a story in and of itself), we went out for donuts at a little bakery in downtown Bothell. My brother and I could down the apple fritters even though they were as large as our heads!

Do you have any favs that are still around? Maybe a memory?

Most Westcoasters wouldn't understand, but the Dog n Suds drive-in for footlong hotdogs and rootbeer. Not even sure Washington ever had one, but back in the day during the 50's and 60's this was the place.

The Candy Cane in Monroe. The best Burgers I have ever had. We used to go there when we went for "fast food". When I got older and was driving and working in the summers I would go there everyday and have a Logger Burger, fries and a chocolate milkshake. They had the best milkshakes. =)

The Candy Cane in Sultan was the best as well. I remember getting soft serve and french fries. Another place, that is still open is The Alpen Drive-In in Startup, now there's the BEST fries ever!! They have a special seasoning they use on them. Their shakes and burgers are yummy too.

Before it was named Alpine Drive-In, in Startup, it was Shipley's Drive-In. We lived next door when I was a small girl. An older couple owned it, they were german decent. It was the best! They made it into a park theme area where they had individual themes. There were wishing well's, music going in each of the different themes. As a child, it was a fantasy land...

Another memory for me was when my parents would take us 5 kids after church to this Drive-In in Everett on north Broadway. I can't remember the name. The burgers were 20 for $1.00. With 5 kids it went along ways. One Sunday my Dad went to order the 20 for $1, somehow the clerk heard him wrong and only 2 burgers were made. We waited forever for those 2, needless to say my Dad was so angry we left...
We lived in Startup, just to drive to Everett took an hour each way.
Wow, those were the days!

The Humdinger drive in in Hoquiam, Washington!! Go grizzlies! I ended up working there even as a teenager, and they had the best burgers, fries and ice cream EVER! The Humdinger burger -- yum! Joe and I had to stop by there on our way to Ocean Shores on our honeymoon -- one of the women who worked there when I was there 19 years ago was still there and remembered me!

Sonic Drive-in for sure! My dad and I used to go there for cherry lime-aids & onion rings. We still call each other when we get the chance to be there and rub it in that the other is missing out. In fact, my sister just called me today to say she was heading there. Lucky!

Also, there is a BurgerMaster in Bothell now. It is located just north of Thrasher's Corner on Bothell-Everett Hwy. Just down the road from our place. Not that I'm rubbing it in or anything :-).
