Tonight, Jeff and I attended The 2nd Annual John R. Wooden Coaches Wall of Honor Banquet. We were there to honor our own George Parker. He has been an assistant coach at Seattle Pacific University for 17 years.
Former Mariner, Dan Wilson (pictured), former Seattle Seahawks, Jim Zorn and his wife were there. Dan Wilson told us that athletes need coaches to step out and begin to give more coaching both spiritually and emotionally. Lorenzo Romar, the head coach of The University of Washington men's basketball team spoke, as well. All talked about the impact coaches have had on their lives. Coaches that invited them into their lives, believed in their talent before it shined and the discipline it took for them off the court and field to be a person of great influence.
Back to George...Tom Box, the SPU's Athletic Director had this to say, "George's career passion may be "polymer fabrication" as a Ph.D. Chemist for Boeing, but his avocation is working with 18-22 year old athletes enhancing physical, mental and spiritual attitudes in each life. His Christian faith permeates every action he takes and every word he speaks. He models Christian values, demonstrates competence, and lives humbly. What a fitting selection for the PAO Wall of Honor.
Congratulations GP...WE LOVE YOU!

WAY TO GO GEORGE!!! I attended SPU several years ago and worked in the athletic office there, as well as running the clock for the basketball teams. George is an amazing person and I know that many of the players looked up to him nad respected him. I was suprised and excited to find out he attended The Rock church!
Congratulations George!!
