Dump The Drain!

I was just at coffee with a good friend and she was telling me she had been cleaning clutter and rearranging her home. I could totally relate. It's February and I have been walking through my house searching for what I can clean, paint or organize. As she continued to describe her de-cluttering, it seemed simple. Move a chest to the other room, put a shelving system in the kitchen for her recipe books, move a favorite picture out where she can see it each day, among other really cool ideas (I'll blog some organizing tips, soon).

This reminded me of the Life301 class I have been teaching. Last week we talked about hindrances. Hindrances are things that get in the way of reaching a goal. I like to think of it as clutter for the brain or stumbling blocks in the road to success. I encouraged my class to carry around a journal with them for the next two weeks of hindrances that come up. When they come up, do what my friend Shandel Slaten taught me and "Dump the Drain." You'll be amazed at how much energy you'll have towards accomplishing your goals once some clutter is dumped.

Let me give you a practical yet very simple example of a hindrance I dumped. I had a plant in my house that I watered weekly. Each time I passed by the plant, I was reminded that I needed to or was soon going to need to water the plan. The beauty of the plant was far outweighed by the "to-do" I would soon check off my list. So, I got rid of that plan and bought an artificial one. Ahh, what relief. Okay, I said it was a simple example.

Grab a notepad, envelope or anything else you can write on and start dumping the drain! Enjoy the journey.
