Today, I spent the latter part of the afternoon putting together some last minute training materials for our Regional Directors. Jeff and I met with them tonight and downloaded information for their first training session with the Regional Leaders and Regional Hosts. This is so exciting! The training will last for three months.
Once summer hits, shabang! We are off to the races! Our regional summer events and outreaches kick-off. We are going to start it off with one event per region. Everyone from The Rock will get together with their own region. It is going to be a spectacular time of community and cause. God called us to be a church for the many and to reach people right in our own back yards and at our own tomato counters. He wants to add to the church, daily. But, He also wants us to have relationship, know each others children's names and do life together. That is what I am really excited about. Life is a journey and no one is meant to be an island, no matter how shy a person may be.
I have been saved 29 years and have been in my share of small groups. Let me just say this much...Regional Reach Teams won't be like any I have gone to before. Is that bad to say? Give me a break as many of those groups I only saw from the kids table!
I was thinking about a comment I heard the other day from a person who had left a large church to attend a much smaller one. He didn't like big churches...as if church was there just to satisfy him. I overheard the person he was speaking with tell him he just needed to get involved, serve and he may really like it.
What a concept. Get involved, serve and give. You know, Ephesians 4:16 tells us that the body is joined and knit together by what every joint supplies. This tells me that when I serve or give, I am going to become a part of the body, team, family. This man was probably either hurt from a past experience and generally labeled all large churches or was too afraid to get involved in the first place and just carries that fear with him wherever he goes.
In my perspective, large groups have greater impact, can bless more people and have a louder voice. Now, that is not to say small groups cannot make a great impact. I have seen many do wonderful works for Christ. I have found greater amounts of work get done with much greater impact when the team is larger and everyone jumps in and does their share.
I am excited to get to know everyone in my region. I will also be traveling to the other regions and hope to get to know all of you, too!
