THE "PARSONAGE"

I am blessed to be writing from Orville, WA. Jeff, the interns and I are on a two-day character retreat at Al and Joanie Parson's place. The "Parsonage" is without technology. It is a nice break! Prior to us arriving, it had snowed four inches which left a fluffy white covering, glistening under the bright and twinkling stars.

The six hour drive was full of great conversation and stress-relieving scenery. I had the privilege of riding with the divas. They are women with a passion for growth and a desire to do God's will. Please pray for Keshia. She woke up ill yesterday morning and stayed home to recover. First Peter 2:24, "By Your stripes, Keshia was healed (paraphrased)." Christ took every sickness to the cross so we would not be subject to them. I believe, if you are suffering from an illness, you are healed today, in Jesus' name!

When we arrived, it felt like we had stepped into the old college days. Jeff jumped in Al's truck and headed out on the 58 acres to feed the horses. He was ecstatic all evening!

The fruit of Character as stated in Timothy consists of:
1. A pure heart
2. A clear conscience
2. A sincere faith

As we embarked on this intense study on character, last night's topic was on pride. It is a biggie because it can creep into every aspect of our lives. This morning's is on anger.

The processing has been amazing. Here are a few points I want to share:
1. Someone had an ahaa moment that every aspect of our character is defined by the fruit of the Spirit.
2. Just because a person is holy or flourishing in his/her gift doesn't make him/her strong.
3. Without strong character, a person will not make it for the long-haul.

Personally, I was set free from pride. I want to share some points with you:
1. An independent spirit: not looking to God or others for help is pride. Daily, I have to ask God for help; otherwise, I tend to become independent.
2. Intolerance towards other's mistakes is pride. As a person who has a heart for people, I desire the best for them. I tend to be intolerant of anything less than their potential. I have to watch my face and heart so I reflect God's grace.
3. A proud or a calloused countenance is pride. Jeff and I have been hurt and talked about by people. I am sure you have, too. I am one who wants to protect and stand up for loved ones. Daily, I have to keep my heart from getting calloused or expecting anything other than the best from people.
4. A daily ahaa for me...I am responsible for my actions, no matter what others do or say. Wow...isn't that refreshing?!?!

Character is not easy but it is rewarding! I am overwhelmed with God's grace to lead, knowing Christ made me perfect and my character is daily maturing.

Thanks for listening. I'm off to the sledding slopes. I hear Kat is the fastest!
